The clashes in Martyrs’ Square: fact or disinformation

Social media platforms circulated an allegation of armed clashes and shootings in the Martyrs Square in the capital Tripoli. The most prominent platform is the “24  Hour” news page that published a video and attributed it to the clashes currently taking place in the capital, Tripoli.

( #Video| Massive armed clashes erupt.exchange of fire between the Deterrence Force and the 444 Brigade in the Martyrs Square in Tripoli. # 24 Hour #Libya)

Verification:

By searching for the source of the video, we found out that it is an old clip from previous military clashes from 2021 that was published on social media (Facebook) on more than one page during the month of February of the same year.

Therefore, the video showing clashes inside Martyrs Square is untrue up to this moment.

Correction:

It is about a previous military crisis between forces from the city of Al-Zawiya and forces affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in light of killing of a member of the military battalions in the city of Al-Zawiya during their interception of the convoy of the former Minister of Interior.

These allegations circulated after armed clashes took place in the city of Tripoli on Monday evening. The clashes were a response to the arrest of the commander of the 444 Brigade.
